Regular Season Round 17: Gunma - Yamagata 63-74

Top ranked Gunma (12-4) recorded its fourth loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Yamagata (8-8) 74-63. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Gunma. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-63. Yamagata dominated on the defensive end, holding Gunma to just 6 points in second quarter. 29 personal fouls committed by Gunma helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was guard Masanari Masanari (186-91) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Shunto Murakami (183-96) chipped in 20 points. American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and Nigerian forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Yamagata maintains fourth place with 8-8 record. Gunma at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. They share it with Hiroshima D. and Nishinomiya S.. Yamagata are looking forward to face Iwate Big Bulls (#6) on the road in the next round. Gunma will play against Cyberdyne IR (#3) in Tsukuba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
