Regular Season Round 9: Calvia - Menorca 72-58

The biggest surprise took place in where host Calvia (5-2) beat league's leader Menorca (6-2) 72-58 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Menorca. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-58. Calvia dominated on the defensive end, holding Menorca to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Menorca 39-24 including 28 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Ivan Matemalas (194-80) who scored 26 points and 8 rebounds. Power forward Jose Maria Morales (205-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Jorge Jimenez (182-81) who recorded 19 points and 6 assists and forward Adria Mesa (192) added 14 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Calvia have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place in Group C-A. Menorca at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Martorell. They were replaced at the leadership position by Leon. Menorca will play next round against Barna trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Calvia will try to continue on its current victory against fourteenth ranked Olivar in Zaragoza.
