Regular Season Round 9: Bayi R. - Guangzhou LL 94-93

Bayi Rockets has finally registered their first victory this season after eight consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Guangzhou (0-9) 94-93 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 25-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Bayi Rockets shot 33 for 48 from the free-throw line, while Guangzhou only scored thirteen points from the stripe. Strangely Guangzhou outrebounded Bayi Rockets 41-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bayi Rockets made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Shuo Han (196-86) who scored 24 points. International forward Yuchen Zou (203-96) chipped in 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman D.J. Kennedy (198-89, college: St.John's) who recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Xuhang Zhu (207-93) added 10 points and 12 rebounds respectively. Four Bayi Rockets and five Guangzhou players scored in double figures. Guangzhou's coach Andrea Mazzon tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Bayi Rockets (1-8) left bottom position moving up to eighteenth place, which they share with Jiangsu TX. It was Guangzhou's ninth loss in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost. Bayi Rockets will meet at home higher ranked Guandong Tigers (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Guangzhou will play against Shandong Bulls (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
