Regular Season Round 9: Antwerp - Aalstar 79-82

Top ranked Antwerp Giants (7-2) recorded its second loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by third ranked Okapi Aalstar (6-3) 82-79. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was Samoan-American power forward John Tofi (203-84, college: UTEP, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Vernon Taylor (192-87, college: Troy) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Five Okapi Aalstar players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jason Clark (188-90, college: Georgetown) who recorded 36 points (!!!) and 4 assists and the other American import power forward Gavin Ware (206-93, college: Mississippi St.) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Okapi Aalstar moved-up to second place, which they share with Oostende. Antwerp Giants at the other side still keep top position with two games lost. Okapi Aalstar is looking forward to face Basic-Fit Brussels (#4) on the road in the next round. Antwerp Giants will play against Kangoeroes in Willebroek and are hoping to win this game.
