Regular Season Round 9: Vigo VGO - Betanzos 59-62

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Betanzos (5-2) edged on the road bottom-ranked Vigo VGO (0-7) 62-59 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 16-8 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Betanzos made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Betanzos outrebounded Vigo VGO 49-33 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was center Marcos Rozas (202-83) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Senegalese Abdou Thiam (-98) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American Johnathan Murphy (199-89, college: Columbus St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import guard Nick Grieves (193-92, college: CS East Bay) added 14 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Betanzos moved-up to third place in Group A-B, which they share with Estudiantes L. Newly promoted Vigo VGO still closes the standings with seven games lost. Betanzos will face Gijon (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vigo VGO will play against BVM 2012 in Mieres and hopes to get finally their first victory.
