Regular Season Round 8: Fiat TO - Umana VE 90-93

A very close game took place in Torino between Umana Venezia and Auxilium TO. Fifth ranked Umana Venezia (5-3) got a very close victory on the road over 9th ranked Auxilium TO (3-5). Umana Venezia managed to escape with a 3-point win 93-90 on Sunday evening. Umana Venezia made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Strangely Auxilium TO outrebounded Umana Venezia 51-38 including 18 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and American-Georgian point guard Marquez Haynes (191-86, college: Texas Arlington) supported him with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds by American swingman Deron Washington (201-85, college: Virginia Tech) did not help to save the game for Auxilium TO. His fellow American import D.J. White (206-86, college: Indiana) added 23 points and 13 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Umana Venezia maintains fifth position with 5-3 record. Loser Auxilium TO keeps the ninth place with five games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Umana Venezia will meet at home higher ranked Juvecaserta (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Auxilium TO will play against AV Cantu (#14) and hope to secure a win.
