Regular Season Round 17: Toshiba BT - Hitachi SR 87-71

There was no surprise when 3rd placed Hitachi Sunrockers (9-8) lost to first ranked Toshiba Thunders (14-3) in Kanagawa 71-87 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Toshiba Thunders. Hitachi Sunrockers was better in fourth quarter 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Ryan Spangler (203-91, college: Oklahoma) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. International forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) answered with 18 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Kenta Hirose (193-85) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Toshiba Thunders. They maintain first place with 14-3 record, which they share with Toyota Alvark and Tochigi Brex. Loser Hitachi Sunrockers keep the third position with eight games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Toyama Grouses (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against Niigata Albirex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
