Regular Season Round 13: Comunicaciones - Mitre Tuc. 83-74

There was no surprise in Mercedes where 7th ranked Mitre Tuc. (2-9) was defeated by fourth ranked Comunicaciones (7-4) 83-74 on Thursday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-18. But Mitre Tuc. won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cameroonian power forward Gaston Essengue (203-83, college: UNLV) stepped up and scored 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Ariel Pau (184-84) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Five Comunicaciones players scored in double figures. Comunicaciones' coach Fernando Rivero used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side American power forward Emilio Parks (198-92, college: Johnson C. Smith) responded with 25 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Tirrell Brown (198-93, college: Ouachita Baptist) scored 17 points. Comunicaciones keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 4 other teams. Mitre Tuc. lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh place with nine games lost. Comunicaciones will face Villa San Martin (#4) in Resistencia in the next round. Mitre Tuc. will play on the road against Salta Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
