Undefeated leader Universo/Vitoria delivered the fifth consecutive win on Thursday night. This time they beat 5th ranked Vasco Da G. (3-3) 70-60 in Rio de Janeiro. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vasco Da G.. Universo/Vitoria made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Vasco Da G. 36-24 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Christopher Hayes (203-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. The other American import point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. Hayes is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international power forward Murilo Becker (211-83) who recorded 16 points and American guard David Jackson (195-82, college: Penn St.) added 8 points and 5 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Universo/Vitoria (5-0) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row. Vasco Da G. at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. Universo/Vitoria are looking forward to face Campo Mourao (#5) on the road in the next round. Vasco Da G. will play against Paschoalotto/Bauru and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
