Regular Season Round 5: Azad - Petrochimi 69-77

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Azad (3-1) in Tehran on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by Petrochimi (5-0) 77-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Azad. Azad trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 18-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-77 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was international Behnam Yakhchali (196-95) who scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Gerald Robinson (185-89, college: Georgia) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. American swingman J.P. Prince (203-87, college: Tennessee) produced 14 points and 7 assists and the other American import power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) added 17 points respectively for the hosts. Four Petrochimi and five Azad players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Petrochimi have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Azad at the other side dropped to the third position with one game lost. Petrochimi are looking forward to face league's second-placed Naft Abadan at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Azad will play against Tabriz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
