The game in Townsville was also quite interesting. Second ranked Perth Lynx (7-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Townsville Fire (5-6). Perth Lynx managed to secure a 4-point victory 89-85 on Friday. Townsville Fire trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 31-23 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 85-89 at the end of the game. Strangely Townsville Fire outrebounded Perth Lynx 49-37 including 20 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American swingman Samantha Whitcomb (178-88, college: Washington) who scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. New Zealand guard Antonia Edmondson (181-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Kayla Standish (187-89, college: Gonzaga) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and guard Mia Murray (184-88) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Perth Lynx and five Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Perth Lynx went down to third position due to points difference. Townsville Fire lost third consecutive game. Defending champion dropped to the sixth place with six games lost. Perth Lynx will have a break next round. Townsville Fire will play on the road against Adelaide Lightning (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
