Regular Season Round 18: Shinshu BW - Nishinomiya S. 62-75

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Shinshu BW (6-11) lost to second ranked Nishinomiya S. (13-4) in Nagano 62-75 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Nishinomiya S.. Shinshu BW was better in second period 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Nishinomiya S. won last quarter 21-10. Nishinomiya S. shot 18 for 25 from the free-throw line, while Shinshu BW only scored two points from the stripe. Nishinomiya S. forced 24 Shinshu BW turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Nishinomiya S. made 7 blocks. It was a good game for Australian center Jordan Vandenberg (216-90, college: N.Carolina St.) who led his team to a victory with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. Point guard Noriaki Douhara (178-89) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Will Carter (200-88, college: San Jose St., agency: HMS) replied with 7 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import power forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) added 15 points in the effort for Shinshu BW. Shinshu BW's coach Ryutaro Onodera let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Nishinomiya S. keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Hiroshima D. and Gunma. Loser Shinshu BW dropped to the fourth place with 11 games lost. Nishinomiya S. will have a break next round. Shinshu BW will play again at home against the league's second-placed Nishinomiya S. (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
