Regular Season Round 9: Cortegada - Valladolid 74-46

Very predictable result when second ranked Cortegada (6-2) rolled over 13th ranked Ponce Valladolid (2-7) in Vilagarcia Arousa 74-46 on Saturday. The game without a history. Cortegada led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Ponce Valladolid's 22. They outrebounded Ponce Valladolid 43-32 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cortegada looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Ponce Valladolid's players. It was a good game for Cape Verdean-American guard Vandell Andrade (179-93, college: Le Moyne) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Senegalese center Amy Syll (196-93) contributed with 8 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Cortegada players scored in double figures. American guard Alyesha Lovett (183-93, college: Cincinnati) answered with 18 points and Sophie Diongue added 8 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Ponce Valladolid. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cortegada maintains second place in Group A with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader Aros Leon, which they share with Sant Adria. Ponce Valladolid lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with seven games lost. Cortegada will face Real Celta Vigo (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ponce Valladolid will play against GDKO Bizkaia and hope to win that game.
