Seventh ranked P.Panthers (3-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging one of their biggest challengers DCU Mercy (3-3) 64-63 on Saturday evening. American forward Nicole Sterling (178-93, college: Miami, FL) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. Center Claire Melia (185-99) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Sterling is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Sarah Fairbanks (185, college: St.Joseph's) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and the former international center Aoife McDermott (185-91) added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for DCU Mercy. P.Panthers moved-up to sixth place. DCU Mercy at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. P.Panthers will play against NUIG Mystics (#7) in Galway in the next round. DCU Mercy will play on the road against WIT Wildcats in Waterford and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
