Regular Season Round 9: Joventut LC - RC Celta 66-59

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Real Celta Vigo (3-6) lost to sixth ranked Joventut LC (4-3) in Barcelona 59-66 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 34-26 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. It was a good game for Nerea Garmendia who led her team to a victory with 21 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Eliana Soriano contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. Joventut LC's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Maria Ylenia Manzanares (175-83) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and center Raquel Carrera (188-1) added 11 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Real Celta Vigo. The victory was the third consecutive win for Joventut LC. Despite that victory Joventut LC went down to eighth position (Group A) due to points difference. Loser Real Celta Vigo dropped to the ninth place with six games lost. Joventut LC will face higher ranked Sant Adria (#3) in Sant Adria de Besos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Real Celta Vigo will play at home against the league's second-placed Cortegada (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
