We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Sao Paolo where 12th ranked Minas (2-4) was defeated by thirteenth ranked Paulistano (2-3) 98-86 on Saturday. Paulistano made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Minas was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was point guard George Lucas (195-96) who scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Eddy Carvalho (196-87) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Drew Maynard (200-89, college: Rochester, MI) who recorded 24 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized Italian point guard Paulinho Boracini (183-84) added 16 points and 5 assists respectively. Five Paulistano and four Minas players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Paulistano moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Minas dropped to the thirteenth position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
