Regular Season Round 8: Dandenong - Adelaide 77-64

Date: November 26, 2016
Bottom-ranked Adelaide Lightning (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 77-64 loss to third ranked Dandenong Rangers (7-3) in Dandenong. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. It looked good early as Adelaide Lightning took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. Then Dandenong Rangers had a 21-16 second period charge getting the lead and Adelaide Lightning was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-77. Dandenong Rangers made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Dandenong Rangers outrebounded Adelaide Lightning 46-26 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by international forward Sara Blicavs (188-93) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds and the former international center Lauren Scherf (195-96) supported her with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Even 17 points and 5 rebounds by American forward Colleen Planeta (188-88, college: Point Loma) did not help to save the game for Adelaide Lightning. International center Laura Hodges (191-83) added 18 points for the guests. Adelaide Lightning's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Dandenong Rangers have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Adelaide Lightning at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost. Dandenong Rangers' next round opponent will be league's leader Bendigo Spirit on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. Adelaide Lightning will play against Townsville Fire (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
