Round 8 in A1 means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Athens where host Olympiacos (8-0) beat league's leader AEK Athens (7-1) 78-67 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of AEK Athens. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Olympiacos. AEK Athens managed to win second period 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded AEK Athens 40-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Olympiacos made 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was American-Belgian guard Matt Lojeski (198-85, college: Hawaii, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Canadian center Khem Birch (208-92, college: UNLV) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Croatian point guard Roko-Leni Ukic (196-84, agency: XL Basketball Agency) produced 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized Serbian Dusan Sakota (210-86, agency: BeoBasket) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Olympiacos have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. AEK Athens at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Panathinaikos. They were replaced at the leadership position by Olympiacos.
