Regular Season Round 17: Denso Iris - Toyota A. 55-72

There was no surprise in Kariya where 5th ranked Denso Iris (11-4) were defeated by leader Toyota A. (15-0) 72-55 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota A.. Denso Iris was better in fourth quarter 30-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Denso Iris to just 2 points in second quarter and to 14 points in first half. Toyota A. shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Yuko Oga (170-82) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Saki Mizushima (171-91) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Toyota A. players scored in double figures. Toyota A.'s coach Don Beck used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the former international guard Shiori Takada (171-92) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The victory was the fifteenth consecutive win for Toyota A.. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with JX-Eneos S. Loser Denso Iris keep the fifth place with four games lost. Toyota A. will have a break next round. Denso Iris will play again on the road against the league's second-placed Toyota A. (#2) in Nagoya and hope to win that game.
