Regular Season Round 8: Lucca - Battipaglia 87-46
Date: November 27, 2016
Bottom-ranked Battipaglia (0-8) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their eighth consecutive match to second ranked Lucca (7-1) 87-46 on Sunday evening. The game without a history. Lucca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Battipaglia's 26. Lucca forced 19 Battipaglia turnovers and outrebounded them 44-29 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American-New Zealand guard Jillian Harmon (185-87, college: Stanford) who scored 25 points and 8 rebounds. American swingman Julie Wojta (183-89, college: Green Bay, agency: LBM Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Four Lucca players scored in double figures. American swingman Brooque Williams (175-89, college: California, PA, agency: Two Points) produced 20 points and 9 rebounds and Romanian Florina Pascalau (193-82) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lucca have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record having just two point less than leader Familia Schio, which they share with Venezia and San Martino. Loser Battipaglia still closes the standings with eight games lost. Lucca will meet at home league's leader Familia Schio in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Battipaglia will play against La Spezia (#11) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
