Regular Season Round 9: Umana VE - JuveCaserta 98-92

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Juvecaserta (6-3) against fifth ranked Umana Venezia (6-3) on Sunday night. Visiting Juvecaserta was defeated by Umana Venezia in a tough game in Venezia 92-98. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Juvecaserta. Umana Venezia forced 22 Juvecaserta turnovers and had a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds. Naturalized Argentinian point guard Ariel Filloy (189-87, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 19 points and 6 assists. Five Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican-American point guard Edgar Sosa (190-88, college: Louisville) who recorded 38 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 6 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and American forward Mitchell Watt (208-89, college: Buffalo) added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Umana Venezia have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with JuveCaserta. Umana Venezia will meet higher ranked Scandone AV (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Juvecaserta will play against Brescia and hope to secure a win.
