Regular Season Round 9: Roma Virtus - Eurobasket Roma 79-80

There was an upset when higher ranked Roma Virtus (5-4) were edged at home by twelfth ranked Roma E-basket (4-5) 80-79 on Sunday. Roma E-basket dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Roma Virtus' 42. Roma Virtus were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Tony Easley (206-87, college: Murray St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Michael Deloach (185-86, college: Norfolk St.) chipped in 15 points and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Massimo Chessa (188-88) with 25 points and 6 rebounds and American forward John Brown (203-92, college: High Point) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Roma Virtus' coach Fabio Corbani tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Roma E-basket moved-up to tenth place in A2. Loser Roma Virtus dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Roma E-basket will face Scafati (#15) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
