Regular Season Round 18: Toyota A. - Denso Iris 84-83 OT

Fifth-ranked Denso Iris (11-5) were very close to win a game against top-ranked Toyota A. (16-0) in Nagoya on Sunday. Toyota A. managed to secure only one-point victory 84-83. However their fans expected easier game. Denso Iris were tied after three quarters and then recorded another tie at the end of regular time. They were eventually defeated in overtime 8-9. Toyota A. forced 23 Denso Iris turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. It was a good game for guard Saki Mizushima (171-91) who saved her team from a defeat with 18 points. The former international guard Yuko Oga (170-82) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Four Toyota A. players scored in double figures. Toyota A.'s coach Don Beck used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) replied with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 18 rebounds and the former international guard Minami Iju (168-90) added 24 points and 8 assists in the effort for Denso Iris. Toyota A. have an impressive 16-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with JX-Eneos S. Denso Iris lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with five games lost. Toyota A. will face Fujitsu RW (#3) in Kawasaki in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Denso Iris will play at home against Mitsubishi K. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
