Regular Season Round 14: Santos - Garzas 80-81

A very interesting game took place in San Luis Potosi. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 9th ranked Santos (5-9) to fourth ranked Garzas (8-6) 81-80 on Tuesday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It looked good early as Santos took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Garzas had a 23-14 second period charge getting the lead and Santos were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-81. Garzas shot 60.3 percent from the field. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. American Wayne Chism (206-87, college: Tennessee) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. The other American import forward Tyrone White (201-90, college: CSU Bakersfield) contributed with 14 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four Garzas players scored in double figures. Garzas' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward B.J. West (211-89, college: Jackson St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and naturalized American guard Martin Samarco (190-85, college: Bowling Green) added 31 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Santos. Newly promoted Garzas maintains fourth position with 8-6 record. Santos at the other side dropped to the eighth place with nine games lost. Garzas will have a break next round. Santos will play again at home against Garzas (#4) and hope to win that game.
