Regular Season Round 6: Army - Azad 58-79

Date: December 1, 2016
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tehran: Azad (#2) and Army (#6). Army was smashed at home by 21 points 58-79 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game without a history. Azad led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 21 Army turnovers. American power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) notched 17 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import swingman J.P. Prince (203-87, college: Tennessee) supported him with 22 points. Four Azad players scored in double figures. Even 16 points and 9 rebounds by the former international Arsalan Kazemi (200-90, college: Oregon) did not help to save the game for Army. The former international Vahid Dalirzahan (199-95) added 18 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Azad (5-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Petrochimi and Naft Abadan. Loser Army dropped to the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Kashan. Azad will meet Arak (#4) on the road in the next round. Army will play against Tabriz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
