Regular Season Round 8: Flamengo - Paulistano 81-72

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Flamengo as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Flamengo defeated 9th ranked Paulistano in Rio de Janeiro 81-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Paulistano. They outrebounded Paulistano 45-33 including a 37-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 7 rebounds and the former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) who added 10 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Four Flamengo players scored in double figures. Flamengo's coach Jose Neto used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard George Lucas (195-96) responded with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists and forward Wesley Alves (198-96) scored 17 points. Flamengo (6-0) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Paulistano at the other side keeps the ninth place with four games lost. They share the position with Franca. Paulistano will play next round against strong Pinheiros trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paolo to the arena of Pinheiros. Flamengo will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Mogi in Mogi das Cruzes.
