Regular Season Round 11: Gernika - Gipuzkoa UPV 57-62

The game between third ranked Gernika (8-3) and tenth ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (5-6) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Gernika was defeated by Gipuzkoa UPV in a tough game in Gernika 57-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gernika. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gernika won third quarter 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Brazilian center Nadia Colhado (193-89) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Lara Gonzalez (174-94) contributed with 13 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Gipuzkoa UPV players scored in double figures. American Amisha Carter (186-82, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Josep and Nicolas) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and international point guard Maria Asurmendi (168-86, agency: Regeneracom Sports) added 20 points in the effort for Gernika. Gernika's coach Mario Lopez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gipuzkoa UPV moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Gernika at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Gipuzkoa UPV is looking forward to face Campus Promete (#11) in Logrono in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gernika will play on the road against Mann Filter (#10) in Zaragoza and is hoping to win this game.
