Regular Season Round 13: New Crusaders - Univ.de Chile 72-55

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Valpara?so. Third ranked New Crusaders faced their biggest opponent Univ.de Chile. Host New Crusaders (9-2) defeated guests from Santiago (9-4) 72-55. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Univ.de Chile. The game was mostly controlled by New Crusaders. Univ.de Chile was better in fourth quarter 23-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Univ.de Chile to just 4 points in first quarter. New Crusaders dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Univ.de Chile's 34. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Javiera Novion (170-87, college: Eckerd) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 7 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international forward Daniela Troncoso (178-87) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five New Crusaders players scored in double figures. New Crusaders' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international center Catalina Lopez (184-84) answered with 14 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Francisca Salvatierra (173-94) added 13 points in the effort for Univ.de Chile. New Crusaders have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Univ.de Chile at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. New Crusaders will play against bottom-ranked Univ.de Los Lagos (#8) in Castro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Univ.de Chile will play on the road against Libertad SF (#7) in San Fernando and hopes to get back on the winning track.
