Second Stage Round 19: Xinjiang - Sichuan 69-70

A very close game took place in Urumqi between Whale and Xinjiang. Fourth ranked Whale (4-3) got a very close victory on the road over much higher ranked Xinjiang (5-2). Whale managed to escape with a 1-point win 70-69 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Xinjiang. American center Tina Charles (193-88, college: Connecticut) fired a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 24 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Yang Jia (191-87) chipped in 10 points. American forward Glory Johnson (191-90, college: Tennessee) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 22 rebounds and the former international power forward XueYa Ma (190-93) added 16 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side. Whale moved-up to third place in Group B. Xinjiang at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Whale will meet at home Shandong (#6) in the next round. Xinjiang will play against the league's leader Bayi Kylin (#1) in Yinzhou and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
