Regular Season Round 20: Chiba Jets - Hitachi SR 83-74

There was a small surprise when third ranked Chiba Jets (13-7) defeated at home one of their biggest challengers Hitachi Sunrockers (11-9) 83-74 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-74. American center Hilton Armstrong (210-84, college: Connecticut) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Kosuke Ishii (182-87) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Canadian center Chad Posthumus (211-91, college: Morehead St.) replied with 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and international forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Five Chiba Jets and four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 13-7 record having six points less than leader SeaHorses. Loser Hitachi Sunrockers dropped to the second place with nine games lost. Chiba Jets will face again Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in Tokyo in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
