Bottom-ranked Gran Canaria managed to get a second victory on Saturday night. This time they won against seventh-ranked Al-Qazeres in Las Palmas 74-66. Al-Qazeres was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded Al-Qazeres 48-35 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for Mali center Mariam Coulibaly (183-97) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Iris Junio (185-99) accounted for 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Five Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. American power forward Julie Forster (185-91, college: Albany) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import guard Ameryst Alston (175-93, college: Ohio St.) added 16 points respectively for Al-Qazeres in the defeat. Gran Canaria maintains fourteenth place with 2-9 record. Al-Qazeres lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Gran Canaria will meet higher ranked Araski (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al-Qazeres will play against Zamarat and hope to secure a win.
