Regular Season Round 9: Viterbo - Salerno 53-52

A very interesting game took place in Viterbo. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 12th ranked Salerno (1-7) to tenth ranked Viterbo (3-5) 53-52 on Saturday evening. Salerno was ahead by 4 points after three quarters before a 14-9 charge of Viterbo, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Salerno's 20. Viterbo forced 33 Salerno turnovers. It was a good game for Giulia Ciavarella (181-97) who saved her team from a defeat with 25 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Anna Romagnoli (175-92) contributed with 5 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Viterbo's coach Carlo Scaramuccia allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Center Alice Ceccardi (182-98) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and Irish power forward Sarah Kenny (180-97) added 6 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Salerno. Viterbo moved-up to eighth place in A2. Salerno at the other side keeps the twelfth position with seven games lost. Viterbo's next round opponent will be higher ranked Udine Delser (#6) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Salerno will play against the league's leader Bologna (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
