Regular Season Round 4: Istanbul Univ. - Gorizont 52-81

There was a surprise result when eighth ranked Belarusian Gorizont (2-2) smashed on the road one of their biggest challengers Turkish Istanbul Uni (2-2) 81-52 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gorizont. Istanbul Uni was better in second period 15-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gorizont dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Istanbul Uni's 32. Gorizont forced 20 Istanbul Uni turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Istanbul Uni's players. Russian-Belarusian forward Yuliya Rytsikava (181-86) fired 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Forward Nadzeya Nadzezhka (180-87) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Gorizont's coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Eylul Minez (185-99) produced 9 points and 10 rebounds and Ozlem Yenidunya (183-96) added 7 points and 4 steals respectively for lost side. Defending Belarusian champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with AZS UMCS and Istanbul Univ. Gorizont will face Astana Tigers (#8) on the road in the next round. Istanbul Uni will play against Vega 1 in Liepaja and hope to win that game.
