Regular Season Round 21: Penarol - La Union 80-67

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Mar del Plata where 6th ranked La Union (9-11) was defeated by seventh ranked Penarol (9-10) 80-67 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Penarol. La Union was better in second period 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. La Union was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. International forward Franco Giorgetti (201-92) stepped up and scored 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and American guard Rob Reed (185-90, college: Concord) chipped in 26 points. The best for the losing side was American-Jamaican center Torin Francis (210-83, college: Notre Dame) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and forward Facundo Pinero (200-88) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four La Union players scored in double figures. Penarol moved-up to fifth place in Norte, which they share with Instituto. Loser La Union keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. Penarol will face Argentino (#5) in Junin in the next round.
