Regular Season Round 9: La Spezia - Battipaglia 63-88

Battipaglia can celebrate finally their first win this season after eight consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in La Spezia, where they outplayed La Spezia (1-8) 88-63 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Battipaglia. La Spezia managed to win fourth quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Battipaglia forced 22 La Spezia turnovers. Strangely La Spezia outrebounded Battipaglia 42-25 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. American swingman Brooque Williams (175-89, college: California, PA, agency: Two Points) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for the winners and Greek forward Katerina Sotiriou (186-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds. Coach Massimo Riga's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Valeria De Pretto (185-91, agency: LBM Management) with 21 points and 9 rebounds and American center Vicky McIntyre (201-92, college: ORU, agency: LBM Management) scored 8 points and 16 rebounds. Four La Spezia players scored in double figures. Battipaglia left bottom position moving up to eleventh place, which they share with defeated La Spezia. It was La Spezia's third loss in a row. Battipaglia will meet at home higher ranked Torino (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. La Spezia will play against San Martino (#4) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
