Regular Season Round 21: Yamagata - Aomori Watts 76-80

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Aomori Watts (8-12) won against on the road 4th placed Yamagata (10-10) 80-76 on Sunday. Yamagata was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 24-17 charge of Aomori Watts, which allowed them to win the game. They made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American center Kyle Barone (208-89, college: Idaho) who led his team to a victory with 26 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Alan Wiggins (206-85, college: USF) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Yuichi Ishikawa (173-87) answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Shusuke Yamamoto (174-93) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Yamagata. Four Yamagata players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Aomori Watts maintains fifth place with 8-12 record. Loser Yamagata dropped to the third position with ten games lost. Aomori Watts will face higher ranked Tokyo Excel. (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Yamagata will play against Tokyo Z and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
