Regular Season Round 9: Maccabi Haifa - Maccabi T-A 81-83

Seventh-ranked Maccabi Haifa (3-6) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Maccabi T-A (8-1). The visitors from Tel-Aviv managed to secure only two-point victory 83-81. However their fans expected much easier game. Strangely Maccabi Haifa outrebounded Maccabi T-A 43-29 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Victor Rudd (205-91, college: S.Florida) stepped up and scored 21 points for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Sonny Weems (198-86, college: Arkansas) chipped in 11 points and 4 assists. Maccabi T-A's coach Rami Hadar allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American forward Tony Mitchell (203-92, college: N.Texas) with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and international swingman Amit Simhon (198-89) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-1 record. Maccabi Haifa at the other side dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Ironi Nahariya and Maccabi Ashdod. Maccabi T-A will play against Galil Gilboa (#7) in Rosh Pina in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Haifa will play at home against Maccabi Rishon and hopes to get back on the winning track.
