Regular Season Round 21: San-en - Toyota Alvark 78-94

The game between Top Four teams took place in Hamamatsu. Second-best host Sanen Neophoenix (12-9) lost to first ranked Toyota Alvark (16-3) 94-78. It looked good early as Sanen Neophoenix took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Toyota Alvark had a 26-12 second period charge getting the lead and Sanen Neophoenix was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-94. American point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) nailed 20 points for the winning side and international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85) accounted for 13 points and 10 rebounds. American swingman Josh Childress (203-83, college: Stanford) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Robert Dozier (206-85, college: Memphis) added 14 points respectively for Sanen Neophoenix in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toyota Alvark have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 16-3 record. Sanen Neophoenix at the other side keeps the second position with nine games lost. They share it with Nagoya DD and Osaka Evessa. Toyota Alvark will play against Kyoto Hannar. (#4) at home in the next round. Sanen Neophoenix will play against Chiba Jets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
