Regular Season Round 9: Venezia - San Martino 74-37

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Venezia. Second ranked Venezia faced 4th placed San Martino. Host Venezia (8-1) smashed guests from San Martino di L (7-2) 74-37. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of San Martino. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Venezia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding San Martino to just 6 points in third and fourth quarters. Venezia held San Martino to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Venezia forced 24 San Martino turnovers and outrebounded them 40-28 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Slovakian center Marie Ruzickova (190-86, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with 8 points and 12 rebounds. American-Romanian power forward Ashley Walker (187-87, college: California) contributed with 9 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Venezia's coach Andrea Liberalotto felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Jasmine Bailey (176-90, college: Ill.-Chicago) answered with 9 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Jasmine Keys (190-97) added 12 points in the effort for San Martino. The victory was the third consecutive win for Venezia. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Familia Schio and Lucca. San Martino at the other side keeps the fourth place with two games lost. Venezia will play against Napoli (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. San Martino will play against La Spezia and hopes to get back on the winning track.
