Regular Season Round 21: Osaka Evessa - Toyama Grouses 85-79
Date: December 5, 2016
Rather predictable result when third ranked Osaka Evessa (12-9) defeated at home 6th ranked Toyama Grouses (2-19) 85-79 on Monday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-11. But Toyama Grouses won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Osaka Evessa made 9 blocks. Toyama Grouses were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Josh Harrellson (208-89, college: Kentucky) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St.) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Osaka Evessa. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Nagoya DD and Sanen. Toyama Grouses lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 19 games lost. Osaka Evessa will face Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in Tokyo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Toyama Grouses will play at home against Shiga L-Stars and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
