Second Stage Round 20: Shanxi - Beijing 70-94

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Taiyuan. First ranked Beijing Great Wall faced 3rd ranked Shanxi Rui Flame. Guests from Beijing (14-6) smashed host Shanxi Rui Flame (11-7) 94-70. Beijing Great Wall dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Shanxi Rui Flame's 38. They outrebounded Shanxi Rui Flame 34-20 including 23 on the defensive glass. Beijing Great Wall players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Shanxi Rui Flame's players. The winners were led by American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds and the former international point guard Xiufeng Shi (178-87) supported her with 15 points and 6 assists. Four Beijing Great Wall players scored in double figures. Beijing Great Wall's coach LiMin Xu felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 42 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds by American guard Jewell Loyd (178-93, college: Notre Dame) did not help to save the game for Shanxi Rui Flame. The former international center Wei Wei (206-89) added 7 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Beijing Great Wall have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position in Group A with 14-6 record. Shanxi Rui Flame at the other side dropped to the fourth place with seven games lost. Beijing Great Wall's next round opponent will be Shenyang Golden Lions (#5) in Dandong. Shanxi Rui Flame will play on the road against the league's second-placed Shanghai Dahua and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
