Regular Season Round 10: Cagliari V. - Alghero 75-62

Bottom-ranked Alghero (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 75-62 loss to tenth ranked Virtus Cagliari (3-7) in Cagliari. It looked good early as Alghero took a 16-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Virtus Cagliari took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 13 points. They made 25-of-30 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Virtus Cagliari outrebounded Alghero 44-19 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. British-Portuguese center Lavinia Da Silva (187-88) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points and 22 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Elisa Templari (172-89, agency: LBM Management) supported her with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Virtus Cagliari players scored in double figures. Even 32 points by Bulgarian point guard Iva Georgieva (170-96, college: Salt Lake CC) did not help to save the game for Alghero. Forward Diarra Sow (180-99) added 5 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Alghero's coach Piero Scarano tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Virtus Cagliari maintains tenth position in A2 with 3-7 record. Newly promoted Alghero still closes the standings with nine games lost. Virtus Cagliari's next round opponent will be higher ranked Albino (#8) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Alghero will play against Carugate (#12) in Corugate and hopes to get finally their first victory.
