Regular Season Round 5: Toyoda Gosei - Saitama Bron. 85-88 OT

Rather expected game in Aichi where 9th ranked Toyoda Gosei (1-7) was edged by seventh ranked Saitama Broncos (2-18) 88-85 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 21-16 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 3-point victory in overtime. Strangely Toyoda Gosei outrebounded Saitama Broncos 50-31 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was center Thailand Armstrong (206-70) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Takuya Nakashima (180-92) chipped in 17 points. Four Saitama Broncos players scored in double figures. Point guard Eiji Sumihiro (171-89) produced 31 points and 5 assists and American center Matthew Kendrick (215-90, college: St.Leo) added 11 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Saitama Broncos maintains seventh place with 2-18 record. Loser Toyoda Gosei stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Saitama Broncos will face higher ranked Aisin AW (#6) in Aichi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toyoda Gosei will play at home against Tokyo Cinq R. and hope to win that game.
