Regular Season Round 22: Nishinomiya S. - Shimane SM 59-71

Very significant was Shimane Magic's (#2) 71-59 road victory against much higher ranked Nishinomiya S.. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Nishinomiya S.. It looked good early as Nishinomiya S. took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Shimane Magic had a 20-9 second period charge getting the lead and Nishinomiya S. was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 59-71. Shimane Magic brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Nishinomiya S. was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Josh Davis (203-91, college: San Diego St.) notched 8 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and point guard Edward Yamamoto (173-86) supported him with 18 points. Even 10 points and 9 rebounds by Australian center Jordan Vandenberg (216-90, college: N.Carolina St.) did not help to save the game for Nishinomiya S.. American forward Larry Owens (201-83, college: ORU, agency: Three Eye Sports) added 9 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Shimane Magic (16-5) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position behind leader Kumamoto V., which they share with Hiroshima D. Nishinomiya S. at the other side keeps the second place with six games lost. Shimane Magic will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nishinomiya S. will play again at home against the league's second-placed Shimane Magic and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
