Regular Season Round 22: Toyotsu FE - Kumamoto V. 66-73

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Toyotsu FE (17-4) in Nagoya on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Kumamoto V. (18-3) 73-66. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Toyotsu FE. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 40-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Toyotsu FE helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Reginald Warren (204-81, college: W.Florida) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Yuji Kanbara (183-89) chipped in 15 points during the contest. Four Kumamoto V. players scored in double figures. At the losing side Nigerian center Solomon Alabi (216-88, college: Florida St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Kohei Fukuzawa (177-93) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kumamoto V. maintains first position with 18-3 record which they share with defeated Toyotsu FE. Toyotsu FE at the other side still keeps top place with four games lost. They share the position with Gunma. Kumamoto V. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toyotsu FE will play again at home against the league's leader Kumamoto V. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
