Very expected game in Azpeitia where 12th ranked Azkoitia (3-8) was defeated by seventh ranked Arxil Pontevedra (6-4) 71-55 on Saturday. The game without a history. Arxil Pontevedra led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Arxil Pontevedra had a 30-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Mali center Minata Keita (190-89) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Maria Lago (-92) chipped in 20 points. American forward Laura Johnson (182-91, college: Sioux Falls) produced 9 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import guard Tamara Taylor (178-93, college: S.Florida) added 16 points respectively for the hosts. Azkoitia's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Arxil Pontevedra moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Cortegada and C.Adelantados. Loser Azkoitia dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Arxil Pontevedra will face league's second-placed Sant Adria in Sant Adria de Besos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Azkoitia will play on the road against Barcelona (#8) and hope to win that game.
