Regular Season Round 10: Irakleio - AE Larissas 65-66

A very close game took place in Irakleio between AE Larissas and Irakleio. Sixth ranked AE Larissas (6-4) got a very close victory on the road over 13th ranked Irakleio (3-7). AE Larissas managed to escape with a 1-point win 66-65 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Irakleio won fourth quarter 22-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Icelandic center Sigurdur Thorsteinsson (204-88) notched 11 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Giannis Staboulis (202-90) supported him with 13 points. Even 17 points and 9 rebounds by forward Ioannis Lianos (202-85) did not help to save the game for Irakleio. Forward Dimitris Lolas (203-86) added 6 points and 15 rebounds for lost side. Irakleio's coach Vasilis Rallis tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. AE Larissas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ethnikos and Faros. Irakleio at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the thirteenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Kavala. AE Larissas will meet at home league's second-placed Iraklis in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Irakleio will play against Doxa Pefkon (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
