Regular Season Round 11: Alghero - Milano 55-59

Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Milano (8-3) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Alghero (0-11) 59-55 on Saturday. Alghero was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 20-15 charge of Milano, which allowed them to win the game. Milano outrebounded Alghero 52-32 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Latvian power forward Liga Vente (191-91, college: Eckerd) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Sara Canova (174-89, agency: SPORTlab Agency) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Bulgarian point guard Iva Georgieva (170-96, college: Salt Lake CC) answered with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals and point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) added 13 points and 6 assists in the effort for Alghero. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Milano. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Costa Masnaga. Alghero lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Milano will face Scrivia (#6) at home in the next round. Alghero will play against Team Crema (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
