Regular Season Round 21: Niigata R. - Aishin AW 62-68

Everything could happen in Tokyo at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Aishin Wings and 11th ranked Niigata R. had identical 2-16 record. But Niigata R. was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Anjo 68-62. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-7. But Niigata R. won third quarter 22-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aishin Wings dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata R. to just 7 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Niigata R. 52-37 including 21 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Evelyn Mawuli (180-95) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. The former international center Kyoko Hamaguchi (181-90) chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Megumi Yamasawa (162-96) who recorded 12 points and 4 assists and swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Niigata R.'s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aishin Wings maintains tenth place with 3-16 record. Niigata R. at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 17 games lost. Aishin Wings will have a break next round. Niigata R. will play again at home against Aishin Wings (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
