Regular Season Round 23: Akita NH - Toshiba BT 69-81

Rather predictable result when first ranked Toshiba Thunders (20-3) won against on the road 4th placed Akita Happinets (6-17) 81-69 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Toshiba Thunders. Akita Happinets was better in second period 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toshiba Thunders dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Akita Happinets' 30. They outrebounded Akita Happinets 42-27 including 18 on the offensive glass. American players dominated the game. Forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Ryan Spangler (203-91, college: Oklahoma) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Toshiba Thunders' coach Takuya Kita used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Deshawn Stephens (203-89, college: San Diego St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and Kevin Palmer (198-87, college: Texas A&M-CC) added 18 points in the effort for Akita Happinets. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for Toshiba Thunders. They maintain first place with 20-3 record. Akita Happinets lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourth position with 17 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Shiga L-Stars (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Akita Happinets will play against Niigata Albirex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
